While a 2.7-liter V6 was standard, and a 3.5-liter V6 optional, the engine that grabbed the headlines was the top-tier 5.7-liter Hemi V8 developing 340 horsepower.    The 300's namesake and inspiration, the original Chrysler C-300 of 1955, was one of the defining members of the big-muscle breed, powered by the original edition of Chrysler's famous hemispherical-head V8 known as the Hemi CD Changer✔ Cloth Interior✔ Anti-lock Brakes✔ MP3 Player✔ Sunroof/Moonroof✔ Chrome Wheels✔ DVD Entertainment System✔ Navigation System✔ Aluminum Wheels

2007 chrysler sebring review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. New and improved for 2007. introductionthe new, 2007 chrysler sebring is an overdue update of the marque's affordable, mainstream family car. It's intended to compete with chevrolet malibu, ford fusion, honda accord, toyota camry, and nissan altima, plus the hyundai sonata, kia optima, mitsubishi galant, and saturn aura. As the list makes obvious, it's a hyper-competitive market niche. Just being 'good enough' no longer makes the cut. It also helps to stay current with the competition's generational cycle, and the sebring was falling short in both regards.  the 2007 sebring rectifies these shortcomings in almost all respects. It gets a third powertrain; a new look; a new interior; and a subtle but generally effective tweaking of the acoustical foundations and structural underpinnings.  chrysler's engineers, designers and stylists did more than just enough with the new sebring. The base engine, a new, 2. 4-liter inline-4, is not only significantly more powerful, but also more fuel-efficient. The mid-level engine, still a 2. 7-liter v6 gains an ability to run on e-85, a blend of 85 percent ethanol and 15 percent gasoline. A new, top-of-the-line, 3. 5-liter v6 is paired with a new, six-speed automatic transmission.  the designers of the '07 sebring kept just enough of the previous generation's styling cues so people will know the two cars are related. The very visible message this sends is unmistakable: the '07 truly is new, not just a face-lifted, quick makeover to keep the brand in dealer's showrooms.  inside, there's as much new as there is outside. Other than the basic ingredients, like gauges, seats and dash, there's little that carries over to the '07 from the '06. And this job is exceptionally well done. The look is sleek and polished, all nicely integrated and finished. There's more room inside, too, thanks to the several added inches in height and the fraction of an inch of added length. All is not fine and wonderful, though. Some interior surfaces, for example, are cold and hard to the touch, and the trunk, for another, gives up 15 percent of its capacity from the '06, giving it one of the smallest trunks in the class.  the list of safety features expands. A new, optional, rear-seat video system keeps passengers entertained. The optional, voice-activated navigation/audio system now incorporates a hard disk drive for quicker mapping response that also can store for playback personally recorded audio tracks.  all in all, very little about the new, 2007 sebring was left untouched or to chance. The v6-powered limited comes with p255/55r18 tires on aluminum wheels. Chrome wheels are available. Other options are similar to those on the other models.  safety features on all sebring sedans include multi-stage frontal airbags; front- and rear-seat. walkaroundchrysler has taken a daring tack with the new sebring. While many car makers strive to carry over as much as they can of a new model's predecessor while still making it look different, the '07 sebring's stylists tossed more than they kept of the previous generation's visuals. Even so, and despite the sweeping changes to the new sebring's exterior, it's safe to label the redesign as more dramatic than radical.  least startling in its revised look is the front end, although there, too, the changes are significant. The shape of the trademark grille survives but shrunken and positioned higher in the fascia. The car gets an honest front bumper, below which is a set of intakes, at least one of which actually functions to channel cooling air to the engine. Large, multi-element headlight assemblies fill the tops of the bumpers. The hood sports embossed strakes splaying back toward the windshield in a pattern intended to bless the sebring with some of the sporty airs of the crossfire, the sebring's underrated, two-seater sibling.  the side of the 2007 chrysler sebring is decorated with creased character lines, a big change from the smooth flanks of the '06 model. Flowing rearward from the front quarter panels, these creases spread, expanding the distance between them and emphasizing the sharply outlined wedge shape of the '07 sebring. Mild fender blisters circle the wheel openings. Body-color, anti-ding door moldings are optional on all trim levels. Side windows are framed in flat black. Mirror housings are body color across the line.  the rear of the car is the most radical element of the sebring's redesign, but it's radical in a contrarian way, showing more of a traditional trunk and bumper style than the '06's chopped off, kammback-look. Where the '06's taillights bracketed the trunk lid, the '07's taillights bridge the seam between the lid and the rear fenders. A molded-in, micro-spoiler lip tops the trailing edge of the trunk lid, itself remarkably shallow, yielding a severely cramped trunk opening. The only jarring element is the inset backlight, which seems to be an effort, however futile, to enlarge the trunk opening while maintaining the desired top-to-bottom proportions of the new sebring. interiorthe interior of the 2007 chrysler sebring is as dramatically changed as the exterior, but with a much more constructive result. Unlike the outside, which underwent the remake almost exclusively so it would look new, the interior is not only remodeled and updated, but it's also friendlier to driver and occupants.  the dash is less cluttered, much cleaner, with vast areas of seamless, gapless surfaces. Air conditioner registers are integrated into the dash panel. A nice aspect of the dash and center stack is they're laid out in a way that's inclusive of the front seat passenger, not oriented toward the driver, a factor that subtly reinforces the family-car personality of the sebring.  the.

2004 chrysler crossfire review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Mercedes underneath, high style above. introductionchrysler's all-new 2004 crossfire is a two-seat coupe that combines american design with german engineering. No mercedes looks as stylish as the crossfire, however. Chrysler says the crossfire is not a red-blooded sports car and is intended to be more of a boulevard cruiser, but we think it's somewhere in between. The mercedes engine isn't up to the output of that of the bmw z4 roadster or nissan z or infiniti g35 coupe. But the crossfire's rear tires are bigger than those seen on some race cars, and its performance is thrilling because the car is acceptably light at just 3060 pounds.  the crossfire originally appeared as a show car at the 2001 detroit auto show, and chrysler decided enough folks liked the design then. We think it's still fun to look at even after its conversion to a real production car. It's actually a retro-mobile like a mini cooper, pt cruiser, or new beetle. Unlike those other cars, however, crossfire is patterned after parts of classic french bugattis and talbot lagos from the elegant pre-war period of auto design. The world's top classic car collectors can recognize the shape of the rear hatch, the curve of the fenders, and the subtly bubbled roof from designs they covet, although the crossfire is a blend of many lines, not a copy of any particular beauty of the golden age. Chrysler says the name crossfire is derived from the crossed lines of the front and rear body sections.  on first sight the crossfire impressed us with all this copied elegance, and we think the car looks terrific. We don't think all cars should look like this, however, and we think the 'speed strakes' that dimple the hood, as well as the non-functional vents behind the front wheels, are kind of cartoony.  for a while after we first saw the crossfire we kept thinking of the post-war 1959 sl gullwing, and we kept trying to look for similar lines of this classic copied onto the crossfire. Finally we realized that it was the custom three-piece luggage set that fits in the rear cargo area that reminded us of the gullwings of the past. It's tight inside for a six-footer, yet the driver's seat slides back far enough for an nba hopeful. The crossfire cockpit is tight and coddling like a sports car's. It's reminiscent of the slk, yet has curiously tiny sun visors. We think it will take some time for us to warm up to the bright metal trim on the center console. driving impressionwe found the crossfire accelerates with strength and force even though the output of 215 horsepower is ordinary these days. The three-valve engine sounds mildly sporty, and feels smooth as a luxury car's. It sounds louder and more purposeful than the same engine in the mercedes e320 sedan. We particularly like the quick throttle response, which gives the impression that the engine is stronger than its 215 horsepower would suggest. But that's significantly slower than sports cars such as the similarly affordable nissan 350z and pricier boxster s.  the crossfire does not overpower its chassis, in fact it feels just the opposite. The a-arm front and multilink rear suspension and the monster tires feel like they can cope with more speed than the engine is capable of providing.  we drove the crossfire over winding mountain roads east of san diego, smoothly paved with lots of combinations of tight bends and fast sweeping curves. The crossfire shares its floorpan with the slk, but in the chrysler it's modified with extra tie bars and frame gussets that prompt chrysler to proclaim class-leading chassis stiffness. The crossfire corners as flat as a sports car. Chrysler says this is a function of the car being tuned for more relaxed cruising than all-out sport driving. The crossfire sports huge 225/40 by 18-inch front and 255/35 by 19-inch rear tires. Two tire designs are available, a michelin pilot sport 2 and a new continental z-rated (high-speed) all-season. The tires are relatively large for a car that is not intended to be an uncompromised sports car, such as nissan's 350z, but we suspect the crossfire's large tires were specified for styling appeal.  the six-speed manual gearbox, a mercedes unit, somehow didn't seem to feel as direct and quick shifting as we remember from previous mercedes roadsters. We actually preferred the crossfire with the five-speed automatic, which worked flawlessly and felt perfectly matched to the 3. 2-liter engine. It has a manually shifting gate, too, which chrysler calls autostick on its cars. Manual shifting automatics are not something we take great pride in learning to shift smoothly, but we felt we could warm up to this unit given the time an owner would have with it.  the brakes are sensitive and responsive. The crossfire can stop like a sports car, a result of its large 11. 8-inch vented front and 10. 9-inch solid rear rotors matched with massive tires. Like the slk, the crossfire makes use of a comprehensive stability and traction control system. It's the first time the mercedes system has been used on a chrysler. When engaged, this system makes the crossfire nearly impossible to upset in tricky conditions.  at 60 mph a rear spoiler pops up just under the rear window, and it cuts slightly into rear vision, but at least the noise from the spoiler's motor was not intrusive. What we did notice was that the sporty exhaust note was still audible while we cruised on the highway. It doesn't offer the performance and handling of a true sports car, such as the nissan z, and there's no v10 planned, so viper owners should feel safe with bragging rights. It corners flat, its mercedes suspension always feels controlled and it has the latest in mercedes anti-skid technology.  the crossfire could nearly be called a special edition. It's built in germany and shipped here in relatively small numbers. The maximum number that will come to the u. What the company learns from this low-volume crossfire will transfer to mainstream chrysler sedans in the future. In any case, we like the crossfire's unique shape and the evocative design. model lineupcrossfire 34,495). assembled inosnabruck, germany. options as testednone. model testedchrysler crossfire 34,495). 2008 chrysler sebring review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. The availability of a retractable hardtop convertible distinguishes the sebring lineup from its popular competitors. The sedan seats five. More than half of the available space in the convertible's trunk is taken up by the top mechanism when the top is down.  the sebring cabin is pleasant. The look is sleek, and it is all nicely integrated and finished. Some of the interior surfaces are cold and hard to the touch, however. With an available dvd rear-seat entertainment system, and chrysler's mygig hard-disc audio system, the sebring's available technology is as good as or better than anything in the class.  dynamically, the sebring fits middle of the pack in the midsize class. Ride quality is generally pleasant, soaking up most bumps well. Handling is competent in the sedan. The convertible lacked the driving feel of the sedan, however, and exhibited noticeable cowl shake.  introduced as a 2007 model, the sebring sedan gets two changes for 2008, one major and one minor. All-wheel drive is available for 2008 on the limited model. Sirius satellite radio is standard. The convertible's front passenger seat is upgraded with six-way power adjustments, but the convertible does not have a 60/40-split folding rear seat or power heated side mirrors.  optional for lx models: premium fabric upholstery 100); heated front seats 250); and a sunroof with lighted visor mirrors, led front-seat map and rear-seat reading lights 935). A convenience group for sedans 895) adds the premium fabric upholstery, theft alarm, electronic personalization center, trip computer, remote starting, trunk cargo organizer, cabin air filter and one-touch up/down front side windows. The mygig entertainment system has a touch screen and a 20-gigabyte hard drive that hosts a music file data/management system, a voice-memo recorder and a six-gigabyte partition for audio and picture files. The mygig multi-media infotainment system 1895) adds a navigation system, voice-activation, and chrysler's uconnect hand-free cell phone link. For convertibles, the electronic convenience group includes automatic climate control, cabin air filter, automatic headlamps, remote start, security alarm, universal. walkaroundat first glance, the 2008 chrysler sebring sedan and convertible are stylistic twins. It also has a shortened coupe-like greenhouse, and is 3. 2 inches longer overall. Both ride on the same 108. 9-inch wheelbase and share the same 61. 8-inch front and rear track. Tires and wheels are interchangeable.  viewed head on, both body styles feature the current rendition of the idiomatic chrysler grille: eggcrate with bright horizontal strips and topped by the brand's winged crest. A substantial, but otherwise unremarkable bumper tops a slim lower air intake bracketed by two, smaller, grille-like openings at the outer ends of which pods provide housings for fog lamps. Molded-in strakes, patterned after those on the crossfire, chrysler's underappreciated sporty coupe, dress up the hood.  there are also differences in balance and proportion between the sedan and convertible. Were the convertible designed as a traditional soft top, we daresay it'd look better. But the retractable hardtop required added length that unsettles the design.  the sedan is decorated with creased character lines on its sides. Flowing rearward from the front quarter panels, these creases spread, expanding the distance between them and emphasizing the car's sharply outlined wedge shape. Mild fender blisters circle the wheel openings. Body-color, anti-ding door moldings are optional on all trim levels. Side windows are framed in flat black. Mirror housings are body color across the line.  the convertible uses the same basic design as the sedan, but the wheelbase looks too long and there's too much of the hindquarters for a two-door. If the expanse of metal between the trailing edge of the door and the rear wheelwell were halved, then it'd fit. But there has to be some place to store large segments of an articulated, metal roof, along with the motors, pumps, and other hardware necessary to lower and raise it. On the sebring convertible, this results in a bulbous back end, with a top surface area nearly the equal to that of the hood. Also, to allow the retracted roof to fit inside the rear quarters, the rearmost edges of the rear pillars must be drawn inward. This awkwardly positions the retractable hardtop roof more on top of the rear fenders than allowing it to smoothly flow down into the side of the car. The look is better on soft top convertibles because the top looks more like a separate piece than an integrated whole.  at the rear of both body styles, large, multi-element taillights wrap around the rear fenders, crossing over into the trunk lid, which has a modest, molded-in lip at its trailing edge. The sedan's trunk lid is shorter than the convertible's trunk lid. The sedan also has a visually jarring inset rear window, which seems to be an effort, however futile, to enlarge the trunk opening while maintaining the desired top-to-bottom proportions.  the sedan's trunk has 13. 6 cubic feet of cargo room, but the opening is quite small, so it won't accept larger boxes. The convertible's trunk opens like a normal trunk with any of the tops up or down and has 13. 1 cubic feet of cargo room.

2006 chrysler 300 review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. More power available. introductionwhen it debuted as a 2005 model, the chrysler 300 revived the long-dormant tradition of the full-size, high-style american performance car. While a 2. 7-liter v6 was standard, and a 3. 5-liter v6 optional, the engine that grabbed the headlines was the top-tier 5. 7-liter hemi v8 developing 340 horsepower.    the 300's namesake and inspiration, the original chrysler c-300 of 1955, was one of the defining members of the big-muscle breed, powered by the original edition of chrysler's famous hemispherical-head v8 known as the hemi. It won the nascar championship in its first year out, and set top speed records on the beach at daytona.  later 300s featured bigger hemi engines and better-handling chassis. And now chrysler is following this tradition, too. The instrument panel and switchgear are easy to read and operate. Pieces of mercedes-benz are slipping into chrysler cars nowadays, and the 300c features a mercedes-like steering wheel, leather under an arc of wood at the top.  a chrysler 300 with a 2. 7-liter v6 retailed for the low price of $24,450 including destination. It's a large, modern, stylish, comfortable car for a small price. The 340-hp hemi has to carry 4046 pounds, so it won't run with a corvette, but it is plenty fast, with a 0-60 time of 6. 3 seconds, according to chrysler. At the same time, the ride is smooth, solid and comfortable and the cabin is very quiet. With a base price of $34,400, it's a deal.  along with the new dodge charger, the 300 is the first big, rear-wheel-drive sedan to come out of chrysler in many years, replacing the front-wheel-drive lh line which, in one form or another, had served chrysler since 1993. Back then, there were engineering cases for front-wheel drive, including reduced manufacturing costs and more efficient packaging. But the way chrysler sees it, more prosperous times call for more performance-oriented cars, and rear-wheel drive remains much better than front-wheel drive for managing horsepower.  new technology has also helped the case for rear-wheel drive. Traction control, electronic stability programs, anti-lock brakes, and electronic brake distribution all improve the driver's ability to control the car. One of the most oft-touted advantages of front-wheel drive is traction in snow, but that too has been erased over the years. Trim levels are keyed to engine size.  the base chrysler 300 23,775) comes with a 2. 7-liter double-overhead-cam v6 making 190 horsepower and 190 pound-feet of torque, and rated 21/28 epa miles per gallon. Antilock brakes with emergency brake assist, electronic stability program and traction control are also standard. Chrysler signature series 30,065) adds two-tone leather upholstery with special interior trim, sirius satellite radio with a one-year subscription, gps navigation, and a 276-watt boston acoustics stereo with 6-cd/mp3 player. Also standard are 18-inch chrome wheels, dual exhaust, projector low-beam headlamps, a premium leather interior and, new for 2006, power adjustable pedals. It gets 17/25 mpg on 89 octane recommended (87 acceptable). It also has bigger and more powerful front brakes, because the engine is some 300 pounds heavier than the v6, and the car is considerably faster. The hemi engine was brutally tested by chrysler engineers, and is covered by chrysler's 7-year/70,000-mile powertrain warranty.  the 300c heritage edition (price na) features smartbeam intelligent headlamps (which automatically adjust brightness for driving conditions), a 368-watt boston acoustics stereo, and additional exterior chrome.  the srt8 39,920) tops the 300 pecking order. This is a true high-performance sedan, in the mode of bmw's m models or mercedes' amg brand, and it features loads of performance tweaks, unique design features and most of the luxury gear. The srt8's centerpiece is a 425-hp, 6. 1-liter hemi v8.  stand-alone options include front and rear curtain airbags, boston acoustics premium sound system, air filtration, ultrasonic rear object detection, self-sealing tires, hands-free cellphone capability, power adjustable pedals, premium sound system, gps navigation system, sirius satellite radio, sunroof, walnut interior accents and xenon high-intensity headlamps. Higher-level models can be ordered with a dvd entertainment system integrated into the center console. walkaroundthe chrysler 300 is clearly bold and, we would argue, cool. But mostly the styling is uncompromising and makes no apologies. Rear-wheel-drive architecture allowed this whole new shape. The wheelwell cutouts, wrapping around 17 or 18-inch wheels, are striking. The wheelbase is long for a modern car at 120 inches (the 1955 original stretched 126), but the overhangs are short, offering a visual sense of power. The roof rakes thickly down to a short deck, and the sides are like large slabs. The long hood glides forward and drops off a cliff whose face is the massive grille, so strong it dictates the car's lines.  the high-performance srt8 may be the coolest-looking 300 of all. Its unique features include body-color front and rear bumper inserts, mirrors and door handles; and the modifications are more than aesthetic. The front and rear ends direct air flow through unique ducts that cool the brakes, while a specially designed rear spoiler increases rear downforce by 39 percent, helping keep the rear tires firmly planted at high speed without increasing drag. Yet the coolest thing about the srt8 might be its 20-inch, forged aluminum wheels and asymmetrical high-performance tires. These maximize that visual power, and they're staggered in the classic track-performance tradition, with the rear tires slightly wider than the fronts. interiorthe interior of the chrysler 300 is marked by spacious silence. Chrysler engineers have been reducing interior and wind noise with all their new vehicles, so it's not surprising that the flagship sedan should get the treatment. Chrysler has its own $36 million aero-acoustic wind tunnel, and they've been trying to get their money's worth out of it.  the cabin is roomy, thanks largely to the efficient shape of the exterior: the chassis is pushed out to the wheels, and the wheelbase is long, leaving 106. 6 cubic feet (sae standard) inside. The door openings are extra large, making climbing in and out noticeably easier and more pleasant.  it's a very clean cockpit.
